Oh, How I Love Photography... Best Of

(Sunlight through fall colored aspen trees)
So I was going to wait till tomorrow to do this, but I figured I would do it now, and finish out this 4 part series. I lost alot of amazing photos when I had to wipe my hard drive in the past year, but luckily many were on myspace or saved elswhere. Unfortunately some of the ones I got off myspace are saved too small. Oh well. Guess I just have to deal. Anyhow, I also have some amazing pics on film but haven't included those either. I made a "best of" folder and threw in over 30 pics that I thought were my best work and my favorites. I have decided to narrow it down to 15 so these are my 15 best. Enjoy!!!David taking a picture with Mt. Evans in the background. Love the composition, the colors, and just the feel of the shot.
Columbine's are normally darker than this, but they come in all varieties. I also have a pic of some albino ones. I could have messed with this in photoshop to make it brighter, but I don't like to do too much post processing. Hopefully that pushes me to be a better photographer on the front end.
This is the macro shot I am most proud of, and it was one of the first!
I think little Royce is tired here, but I included this one because I really just liked his expression. This is also me letting go of some photography rules to come up with a more creative shot. I don't normally fill the screen so much, but it seemed to work so I did.
My personal favorite!!! Talk about capturing the moment! To this day I still can't think of a single picture I like better. For me this says it all, great lighting, great composition, great setup, great timing, great luck, great expressions all around. This is what I strive for.
Again, filling the screen to the max... Babies make such amazing photos. Enough said...
Once again, another camp moment. I like the up angle I took this at and just the general feel of it.
Here is my attempt to get artsy. A couple people have said they really liked this one so I included it. Its simply an up angle shot of a wire that holds a telephone pole. I used a flash to make the metal stand out.
Ahh, look at the happy couple, Sarah & John. Believe it or not, this is Lake Michigan. Lighting was still a bit harsh, but I like the shot nontheless. I do plan on doing another blog with more of my best wedding, portrait, etc. photography pretty soon! Most of what I am doing now is the more unique stuff.
Another one that I love, but can't really explain why. It's mostly just the feel of this photo. It says something, but I don't know what exactly. When I look at it I feel like I am simultaneously blocking and reaching for the sun. I apologize if I am getting too deep with this one... ;-)
These last couple are really all about the feel of the shot. This was taken on our backpacking trip to the San Juans. We climbed this place we dubbed Avalanche Hill because it's where a previous avalanche took the bridge out. The mist created the perfect setting for this shot. Sterling is the one climbing the log and Garrett is behind him.
Ahh, black and whites. Gotta love them. Nothing too special about this picture. We were all taking a break from a hike to the quartz mine and I decided I wanted some B&W's to remember camp by. Glad I stuck this one on myspace because it would have been gone forever...
This is one of those pictures where you go, "wow, that's cool!" Then you ask, "How did you do that?" Well timing is everything. I took a couple shots later and the blue disappeared. The fire is what lights everyone up, but the sky still seems blue because the sun was setting. Again, timing can be everything.
I had to include at least one landscape photo didn't I? As with all landscapes a photo just doesn't do it justice. It helps if you blow this one up as big as your screen will allow. The majesty of it all and the lighting make it a truly amazing photo though.

Ok, so there are 16 pictures. Couldn't leave this last one out though. I have never been lucky enough to catch another fast action shot like this one since I took it. Nothing like cake in the face!!! haha!!!

Nevermind, there are 17 photos. I know I said I would leave film ones out but I just found this one and had to include it. I did a missions trip to Mexico and this is one of my favorite pictures. I do have one other one where we are playing soccer (futbol), but I really like this one too. It is good to remember how privileged we are here in America to have all that we have. We should never take it for granted and we should give thanks everyday. With the economy the way it is now, it's nice to have pictures like these to know kids are smiling in other places in the world with a lot less. Anyhow, hope you enjoyed all the photos. Would love to have comments! Thanks!

Pretty pics! I love them. And I love taking pics. I try and throw out all photography rules too. I just capture what I see.
